Gunman Enters Fallon Nevada LDS Chapel | Murders One, Injures Another

What started out as a Sunday like any other, ended as one that members of a Fallon, Nevada ward will never forget.

A lone gunman entered the chapel during Sacrament as a speaker was beginning his talk.

The alleged gunman, identified as John K. O’Connor, walked up to the victims and shot them at point blank range, killing one, and injuring another in the leg.

While many of the details are still being gathered, there is a lot of information that is surfacing on social media from those who had close ties to those in Fallon, Nevada.

The name of the victim that was mortally wounded was Bert Miller. He has been caring for his wife LuDene, who is in a battle of her own with cancer.

LDS Church spokesperson Eric Hawkins said in a statement:

We have recently learned of a shooting in Fallon, Nevada, during a church service. Details are still developing, and inquiries should be directed to local law enforcement personnel. We express our love to those in this congregation and our prayers for the victims and their families. Local leaders are ministering to them at this time.

Please pray for the family of the victim and also the Fallon, Nevada ward. This is a tragic event that will never be forgotten, and there are many wounds that need to be healed.   • I know news is still breaking on this incident but unfortunately it is likely to be true. I just wanted to let you all know how sorry I am to hear of this event.

    It is particularly sad that it happened during Sacrament. My thoughts & prayers are with the congregation in Nevada during this time.

    I have great memories of the fabulous elders and missionaries that visited me during a particularly dark time in my life in 2015 and because of them I will always carry a spark of light in my heart. I have much love for the LDS Church because of the blessings, prayers and hope that they bought directly to me.
